Extra Curricular Activities

Extra curricular activities play an important part here at International School Groningen which is why many day trips and longer trips are organised for our students of each year. From SGS sessions, where students attend short courses on areas outside their regular curriculum, to educational visits in the Netherlands and abroad.

MYP5 as well as DP1 students take a trip to the Noorderlicht art exhibition which is held in Groningen. This trip is associated with different subjects such as Dutch and Visual Arts.

One of the topics MYP4 covers in Humanities is World War One. For a better understanding of what World War One entailed the students take a trip to the Belgian city of Ypres where they visit museums, trenches and memorials. Students also benefit from a change of scenery and are given some free time to explore the historical city of Ypres.

DP1 in Lubeck, Germany

DP1 students are given the opportunity to take part in the Model United Nations of Lubeck (MUNOL). Many International schools gather in Lubeck, Germany each year. Students describe this trip as both highly educational, enjoyable and an amazing experience. Every year each international school's DP1 class is appointed a country to represent and will join discussions and other activities whilst at MUNOL.

The sailing camp

At the end of each year a trip is organised for the whole of the MYP. For the past few years we have gone to the theme park known as Walibi World which all the students thoroughly enjoyed. Last year, however, we organised a sailing camp where the students partook in land and water activities for 3 days. This was enjoyed by both students and staff. Who knows what students might suggest next?

At the Kardinge Ice Rink

It is an ISG tradition to go skating with the whole school around Christmas in Groningen at Kardinge Ice Rink. This excursion is both fun for beginners as well as the more experienced skaters. Throughout the school year discos and galas are organised. This is one of the many times for International students as well as Dutch students to interact with each other!

Community and Service plays a big role at the ISG and students are expected to play their part in this. Activities involving the local and national communities are arranged by the mentors, teachers and most often by the students themselves! In DP Community, Action and Service play a large role and students are expected to come up with creative activities themselves.
